so to start im very new to the forum life i dont even know if im beginning this right but (spoiler alert for those that havent played a game ever or rather one thats very old) at the end of medievil 2 your given two endings depending on how many chalices youve collected but if you do happen to collect them all your only treated to what seems to be sir dans and kyras death is that really the true ending or is that a joke i have been puzzled about this for years why would i want to collect them all if i just watch my hero die?
Well, there are tons of theories about which one is the real ending, may say the all-chalice ending was for hook to a possible Medievil 3, while many say that the real ending is the not-all-chalice one because since you don't get the machine gun, you win in "hard mode" and therefore you deserve eternal rest.
Yeah, the machine gun is an extremely over powered weapon that makes the final boss much easier. I fought the demon without it and I'm still amazed for how much it took without it. Sadly the chance of Medievil 3 is zero right now... so one can only dream.
I think it was meant to be a "B movie" kind of ending, i.e. silly. It's a little more exciting than the ending you get when you don't collect all the chalices IMO. Anyhow, as there is no continuation, there is no real "canon" ending.
There was a proposed direct sequel however, and in that one they pretty much would have retconned the "all chalices collected" ending to take Dan and Kiya elsewhere (it also involved Kiya being evil and other fun twists). Another proposed sequel was meant to take place between the first and second games, so it wouldn't have followed either ending.
As it currently stands, you can pick your own ending, I guess.

I was thinking if you read the story for the proposed Medievil 3 then you'd be able to work it out, maybe? But it's been a LONG time since I read it honestly.
On a side note, I read 'canon' as 'cannon' and thought about the cannon you use to destroy a door in the museum, heh. The thing explodes in his face (because let's face it, Dan had no idea that was going to work after all), so that was the cannon ending.
